KU weight center set for 2003 opening

By Staff     Jan 5, 2002

Kansas University athletics department officials have established March of 2003 as the scheduled completion date of the new Anderson Family Strength and Conditioning Center.

“We’re in the middle stages of design,” Pat Warren, KU associate athletics director for external affairs, said on Friday. “Construction should begin in the next six to eight weeks.”

Dana and Sue Anderson of Los Angeles donated $4 million to help fund the $8 million facility that will wrap around the north and west sides of Anschutz Pavilion and replace Shaffer-Holland Strength Center.

Warren said KU officials had talked about completing the project in December of this year, but noted: “We didn’t think we could get it done responsibly that early.”
