Dave Doeren, secondary coach and recruiting coordinator at NCAA Div. I-AA football champion Montana, has been named Kansas University’s linebackers coach.
“Dave is a rising star in the coaching ranks,” KU coach Mark Mangino said Monday. “Dave is a tireless recruiter and a diligent worker.”
In two seasons at Montana, Doeren coached seven all-conference defensive backs, including two All-America selections, while helping Montana to a 28-3 record, two conference championships and a national title.
Prior to his stint at Montana, Doeren worked as a defensive graduate assistant for two seasons at Southern California. Before that, Doeren served as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Drake University, from 1995-97 first as linebackers coach, then as defensive coordinator.
Doeren is no stranger to the area. A graduate of Shawnee Miege in Roeland Park, he began his coaching career in 1994 as an assistant coach at Shawnee Mission Northwest.
Doeren was a four-year letterman at Drake where he earned Academic All-America honors. He and his wife, Sara, have a son, Jacob.
Doeren is the eighth appointment to the KU staff, joining Dave Borberly, Bill Young, Nick Quartaro, Pat Henderson, Travis Jones, Brandon Blaney and Clint Bowen.
