The family of former Kansas University Chancellor Deane W. Malott will donate $1 million toward landscaping on campus, KU officials announced today.
Robert and Elizabeth Malott of Kenilworth, Ill., pledged the gift to the KU Endowment Association. Deane W. Malott served as KU’s chancellor from 1939 to 1951.
Part of the money will help construct a gateway to campus at 15th and Iowa streets, west of the KU Visitor Center. It will include a curved, 70-foot-long stone wall and new signs.
Construction of the gateway began earlier this month.
The gateway is part of a $23 million landscaping plan that is part of the endowment association’s $500 million “KU First” campaign. Other improvements include trees, signs and pathways.
