Jayhawk golf team finishes eighth

? Kansas University’s golf team entered the final round of the Taylor Made/Big Islander Invitational in fourth place, but the Jayhawks shot their highest round of the event and finished eighth Friday in the 24-team field.

“The wind really blew today, making the scores go up,” KU coach Ross Randall said after his team shot 302 for a three-day total of 879. “I am really pleased with our eighth-place finish.”

Troy Matteson of Georgia Tech won the event with a score of 210, and the Yellow Jackets also won the team title with a three-round total of 860 on the par-72 Waikoloa Kings Course. Travis Hurst led KU, tying for ninth at 217. Chris Marshall tied for 17th at 218. Tyler Hall tied for 26th at 220. Casey Harbour tied for 59th at 225, and Kevin Ward was 112th at 238.
