It should come as no great surprise if Drew Gooden leaves Kansas for the NBA after this, his junior season.
“I think it’s a high possibility,” Gooden, KU’s college player of the year candidate said Thursday on Jim Rome’s national radio show. “I might not have to think about it as long as much as I did last year.”
Gooden pondered a move to the NBA for several weeks last spring, announcing he was staying in school at KU’s basketball awards dinner.
“I didn’t have to listen to scouts. I didn’t have to listen to agents. I was basically being honest with myself, basically sat down with my family and coach (Roy) Williams and evaluated myself. Was I ready to make that jump? I thought I wasn’t. I thought another year would help me in the long run,” Gooden said. “I think your college years are an investment. I did turn down a lot of money but I think it’s worth it.”
Gooden stressed his decision will come “in the postseason. Right now I’m trying to win the conference, go undefeated in the conference, make a nice strong shot at the Final Four and national championship.”
