Nebraska opened by taking two of three doubles matches and winning the doubles point. KU rallied in singles.
Cheryl Mallaiah won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1.
KU also received victories at No. 3 from Courtney Steinbock, No. 4 from Paige Brown, No. 5 from Aurelie Bejar and No. 6 from Kim Lorenz. Each were straight set victories.
Lorenz’s 6-4, 7-5 victory over Rebecca Harvey came in her home state. Lorenz is a native of Omaha.
“It feels good to play in front of family and friends, I haven’t done that since high school,” said Lorenz, a junior. “I was a little nervous, but all that matters is that we won as a team.”
KU will travel to Texas A&M on April 19 and Texas on April 21.
“This was a tough match,” KU coach Kilmeny Waterman said. “I am glad that we came away with a solid win. We are excited about next week’s matches and we realize that we have nothing to lose.”
