TALLAHASSEE, FLA. ? Kansas University struck first, but Florida State rallied for a 4-1 women’s soccer victory over the Jayhawks on Friday at the Seminole Soccer Complex.
At the 11th minute, Kansas’ Rachel Griffin passed to Hilla Rantala, and Rantala beat FSU’s Kerry York at the near post. Rantala’s fifth goal this season gave the Jayhawks a 1-0 lead.
But the Seminoles (4-2-0) scored four unanswered goals against the Jayhawks (3-2).
“The first half was very tough,” FSU coach Patrick Baker said. “Kansas came in organized and playing well and scored a very well-taken goal just 10 minutes in. For us to not play as well as we would of liked all game but get a result, just like we did at Clemson says something about this team but it isn’t the standard we are trying to set. We want to be one of the best teams in the country and we are not playing like one right now. We are a good team but not a great one yet.
“We still have a lot of work to do. We still gave up an early goal, which is something we have been trying to remedy. We manufactured a penalty kick tonight and then the game changed. We talked at halftime that we had 45 minutes and the game was in the balance. I told our team at times we play some very good soccer but we have a lot of work to do.”
