KU-Wyoming game canceled

Saturday’s Kansas University football game against the University of Wyoming has been postponed. All sporting events in the Big 12 Conference through Sunday have also been postponed.

The decision, announced Thursday, was a result of unanimous action taken by the Big 12 Conference presidents and chancellors, faculty representatives, directors of athletics and senior women administrators.

Although there was strong sentiment to return to normal activities as soon as possible, “the practical and logistical issues associated with travel to campus athletics events and other management concerns ultimately could not be overcome,” the conference said in a prepared statement.

“This has been an unprecedented period for our country,” said Big 12 Commissioner Kevin Weiberg, “and these decisions were very challenging for all of us. We know that sports events are secondary to the many important developments of the last few days, but we do have a commitment to return to full activity as soon as possible.”

The conference plans to work to reschedule the events in the upcoming days.

The Big 12 also will evaluate next week’s competition in light of national developments, but will plan to return to competition next week.
