Kansas junior defender Brianna Valento used her head plenty on Tuesday.

Valento scored three goals all on headers as KU posted its third consecutive soccer shutout, blanking Saint Louis, 3-0, at SuperTarget Field.

Valento teamed with senior forward Hilla Rantala for all three goals. Valento scored her first goal of the season when she headed the ball in off Rantala’s corner kick at 26:21.

Ahead 1-0 at halftime, KU scored early in the second half when Valento headed Rantala’s free kick into the goal. The duo closed the scoring in the 63rd minute on a free kick to header again.

“I thought we really maintained our level of play,” said KU coach Mark Francis, whose squad improved to 12-5. “This is a great time to be playing well.”

Valento’s hat trick is the third by a Kansas player this season. Senior Natalie Hoogveld scored three on Oct. 14 at Colorado and Monica Brothers had three goals against Oklahoma State on Sept. 30.

KU will play host to Missouri at 3 p.m. Friday in its last match of the regular season.
