TOPEKA ? Kansas University’s Kristina Boehm rolled the only 300 game and averaged 227.7 to take the third spot on the all-tournament team, and the Jayhawks’ women’s club team placed third at the Mid-States Intercollegiate Bowling Tournament, which concluded Sunday at Westridge Lanes.
“Kristina was solid,” KU coach Michael Fine said. “And that was as good a performance as any women’s team we’ve ever had. We were one-tenth out of second. That’s probably one of the greatest tournaments we’ve had since I’ve been here, and I’ve been here since 1984. This is the first time we’ve finished ahead of Wichita State.”
Defending national champion Nebraska won with a 13-game pinfall total of 13,949. Perennial power Central Missouri State was second at 13,839, and KU was third with 13,107.
“The women were just solid for the entire tournament,” Fine said. “Kristina’s the oldest member we’ve got, and she’s a junior. We’re only going to get better.”
Kansas’ men fielded two teams. The KU Crimson team placed ninth with a pinfall total of 13,132, while the Blue team was 14th with 12,671. Lindenwood won with 14,081.
Jesse James led the Jayhawks with a 214 average.
“We’re pretty disappointed,” Fine said. “We thought we’d do better. But we lost three of our top six bowlers. We’re young, and we learned a lot.”
