Kansas University’s women’s basketball team was picked to finish 11th in the Big 12 in a preseason poll by the league’s coaches.
The Jayhawks return two starters and six letter-winners from last season’s 12-17 team.
“This is just a reflection of what we lost last year,” KU coach Marian Washington said. “This is a good opportunity to use this as motivation, and there is no question we will use this throughout the season.”
Oklahoma was picked to win the Big 12 Conference this season followed by Texas Tech, Iowa State and Colorado. The Sooners received eight first place votes. The top four teams in last year’s final regular season standings were picked in the same places in this year’s preseason poll.
No KU players received votes for the preseason All-Big 12 team.
Baylor led that team with two members guard Sheila Lambert an forward Danielle Crockrom. Completing the All-Big 12 preseason team were Oklahoma guard Stacey Dales; Iowa State center Angie Welle; and Texas Tech forward Plenette Pierson.
