Tamara Ransburg, a 6-foot-4 forward from Virginia Beach, Va., has signed a letter-of-intent to play basketball for Kansas University next season.
Ransburg, a native of Kansas City, Mo., chose KU over Connecticut, Old Dominion, Duke and North Carolina. She averaged 24 points and 12 rebounds for Tilton, N.H., High last season.
“Tamara is a tremendous talent,” Kansas coach Marian Washington said. “She has great explosiveness off the blocks, is a tremendous shot blocker and an all-around great athlete.”
Ransburg is the Jayhawks’ seventh and last signee.
“We feel we have one of the top classes in the Big 12 Conference,” Washington said.

Erica Hallman, a 5-8 guard from Covington, Ky.
Crystal Kemp, a 6-2 forward from Topeka High
Ebony Haliburton, a 5-11 forward from Overland Park Aquinas
Nichelle Roberts, a 6-1 forward from Houston, Texas
Alicia Rhymes, a 6-0 forward from Shreveport, La.
Aquaneta Burras, a 5-9 transfer guard from Central Arizona CC.
Five pitchers, including Free State High’s Eric Peterson, have been announced by coach Bobby Randall. Other hurlers who signed are Kyle Anderson, Blake Howard, Eric Pippin and Fort Scott CC transfer Matt Hiatt.
Hiatt, a right-hander, recorded a team-best seven saves last season as a freshman for Fort Scott CC. Hiatt posted a 7-0 record and a 1.34 earned run average as a senior at Paola High.
Anderson, a left-hander from Richardson, Texas, was 8-2 while posting 95 strikeouts in 60 innings last spring.
Pippin, from Oktaha, Okla., was 12-8 last spring while leading his team to the semifinals of the state tournament.
Howard, a native of Leavenworth, is 15-7 during his career for the Pioneers. He is a two-time member of the All-Sunflower League team and also plays basketball for Leavenworth.
Five signees three infielders, a catcher and an outfielder were announced by coach Tracy Bunge. The five are:

Annette Fierros, an infielder from Avondale, Ariz.
Melaney Torres, a catcher from Grand Prairie, Texas.
Heather Stanley, an outfielder from Highlands, Texas.
Chelsey Pryor and Tiffany Woods, ranked among the top 100 prep golfers in the country, have signed national golf tenders.
Pryor, from Washington, Pa., had two second-place finishes in the PGA Junior Series last summer. Woods, from Escondido, Calif., finished fourth in last spring’s CIF championships.
