Washington adds two to recruiting class

Kansas women’s basketball coach Marian Washington announced the signing of two more recruits on Thursday.

Alicia Rhymes of Loyola Prep in Shreveport, La., and Aquaneta Burras of Central Arizona Community College have signed letters of intent to play for the Jayhawks next year.

Rhymes, a 6-foot forward, was the Louisiana Class 2A state player of the year as a junior in addition to being named Street & Smith All-American honorable mention. Rhymes also took home all-district and all-metro honors following her junior campaign. Last summer, she participated in the adidas camp, which features the nation’s top 200 players.

“Alicia has so much upside to her game,” Washington said. “She is a great athlete and will bring a lot of quickness to our team. There is no telling how far she can go.”

Burras, a 5-9 guard, will come to KU as a sophomore from Central Arizona. At Lathrop High School in Fairbanks, Alaska, Burras was a two-time member of the all-state team and a three-time member of the all-state tournament teams. Burras was named All-American honorable mention following her senior season.

“Aquaneta is an outstanding shooter,” Washington said. “She is physically very strong and great from the perimeter.”

On Wednesday, Kansas announced the signings of guard Erica Hallman of Covington, Ky., forward Crystal Kemp of Topeka High, forward Ebony Haliburton of Overland Park Aquinas and forward Nichelle Roberts of West Field High School in Houston.
