For the second time in two days, Kansas University’s football team landed an oral commitment from a high school quarterback.
Graeme McFarland, regarded as one of the top four prep prospects in Alabama by online recruiting service Rivals.com, said Tuesday night he was headed to KU, despite the fact Kansas doesn’t have a head coach for next year.
“I think he’s been looking in that direction for a while,” McFarland’s father, Carl, told MoKan Football’s Jon Kirby. “They did a better job of recruiting him than anybody. They have a beautiful campus and good academics. Plus, we think with (athletics director) Al Bohl at Kansas, he will help build a successful program.
McFarland, 6-foot-3, 200 pounds, has thrown for more than 2,300 yards for Mountain Brook High, which is in the second round of the state playoffs. McFarland chose Kansas over Vanderbilt, Auburn, Southern Mississippi, Duke and Alabama-Birmingham.
On Monday, the Jayhawks received a nonbinding oral commitment from Derby QB Nick Reid.
