Salt Lake City ? Former Kansas University guard Jacque Vaughn broke an 0-for-22 shooting slump when he scored seven points for Atlanta in the Hawks’ 96-89 loss to Utah on Wednesday night.
Vaughn connected for his first field goal of the season but missed four other shots to bring his season total to 1-of-27. He hit five of six free throws Wednesday night.
Vaughn, who spent four seasons in Utah, scored his seven points in 35 minutes. At the horn, he received a hug from former teammate Bryon Russell before running to the dressing room.
It was a homecoming of sorts for Vaughn, a first-round pick by the Jazz in the 1997 draft. Team officials, worried that his quick style didn’t fit, declined to re-sign him after last season and he went to Atlanta as a free agent.
“It was real weird being a visitor,” Vaughn said. “Four years of my life I dedicated to playing for this organization. It was fun playing against guys that I suited up with for so many games.”
Vaughn was introduced to a mix of boos and cheers before tipoff.
