Ames, Iowa ? Kansas University swept Iowa State, 30-28, 30-18, 30-21, in volleyball on Wednesday, marking the first time that the Jayhawks won back-to-back Big 12 matches on the road.
The Jayhawks improved to 15-12 overall and 5-11 in the Big 12 with two of those victories coming against Iowa State. The Cyclones dipped to 4-17 and 1-15.
“It was a good effort this evening,” KU coach Ray Bechard said. “Lindsay Morris really stepped up for us tonight and contributed a lot offensively. It’s always great to get a win on the road.”
Morris, a freshman outside hitter from Overland Park, led the team with 13 kills. Sophomore Sarah Rome and junior Kylie Thomas recorded 10 apiece. Rome, who leads the team with 32 aces for the season, had three aces against the Cyclones. Junior specialist Jennifer Kraft led the team defensively with a game-high 15 digs.
“It feels good to win any two games in this league, let alone two on the road,” Thomas said. “We really want to have a strong finish to the season and the last two wins give us a good start.”
KU capitalized on a .241 team hitting percentage while limiting the Cyclones to .100 attack percentage.
KU will play host to Nebraska at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Horejsi Center.
