To Roy Williams, Kansas University’s incoming class constitutes a “Fab Five.”
“This class was fantastic for us,” Williams said of newcomers Aaron Miles, Michael Lee, Keith Langford, Wayne Simien and Jeff Hawkins.
“I very seldom pay attention to what recruiting services say by any means but one evaluation of our recruiting class … the last two words said, ‘character abounds.’
“I think we’ve got five great kids who will help us win a lot of games We have five kids with great character. They are five kids we are going to enjoy working with a great deal.”
Williams believes four can immediately contribute but realizes they face a big transition from high school to college basketball.
“I say all the time, ‘Imagine the most intense game you’ve ever had,”‘ Williams said. “Every day at practice is 10 times more intense than that. You’ve got to be able to do that over a long period of time. That will be a key.
“I fully expect them to play. That’s always a good scenario. If I was a freshman and my coach was expecting me to play … that’s a good situation to be in.”
