KU, Hurst lead Prestige

? Kansas University senior Travis Hurst shot a career-best round of 8-under-par 64 to lead the Prestige at Palm Desert golf tournament after one round.

Hurst’s round sparked KU into a tie with UC-Davis for first place at the 20-team tournament. The two teams totaled 278 strokes each, two better than Washington.

Junior Chris Marshall shot an opening round of 2-under-par 70 to place him in a tie for 12th place.

Casey Harbour, Tyler Hall and Kevin Ward each shot 72, good for a share of 35th place. Dustin Bray of North Carolina is second overall at 65.

“I am very pleased with our first-round scores and especially proud of Travis’ performance,” coach Ross Randall said. “We still have our work cut out for us tomorrow. We have a 4:30 a.m. wake up call.”

Second-round action was postponed by darkness and will be completed before the start of the final round today.
