Kansas swimmers win dual meets

? Kansas University’s women’s swim team collected a pair of dual meet victories Saturday. The Jayhawks defeated Southwest Missouri State, 99-40, and Houston, 91-48.

Freshman Amy Gruber claimed three individual titles, winning the 100 butterfly in 58.11, the 50 freestyle in 24.26 and the 100 backstroke in 1:00.44.

KU junior Gwen Haley won the 1,000 freestyle in 10:21.38; sophomore Kristen Johnson won the 500 freestyle in 5:07.54, and senior Carrie Kirkham won the 100 and 200 freestyles. Junior Heidi Landherr added a victory inthe 200 butterfly in 2:09..05.

“We had a hard week of training and the ladies did a good job of stepping up for the second straight week,” KU coach Cathy Burgess said.

The Jayhawks will compete in the Minnesota Invitational on Nov. 16-18. Results on page 14C.
