Roy Williams has said Kansas is in the market for power forwards and centers in next year’s men’s basketball recruiting class.
One possibility for the 2002-03 season is Kelly Orchard, a 6-foot-10, 220-pound pivot from Bountiful, Utah, who made an unofficial visit to KU last season.
Orchard’s dad told recruiting analyst Mike Sullivan of Mike Sullivan’s Rivalshoops.com so far his son is considering KU, California, Stanford, Brigham Young and Boise State.
It is believed Orchard’s play this summer will determine whether he’ll be offered scholarships by KU and Stanford.
Another big man, 6-10, 210-pound Shavlik Randolph of Raleigh, N.C., likely will make a recruiting trip to KU this fall. Sullivan says Randolph has no leader at this early date, but it’ll be tough to pry him from the clutches of Duke, North Carolina and North Carolina State. He’s also considering KU, Kentucky, Florida, Stanford and USC.
