KU track heads to Big 12s

Kansas University’s track team is headed to College Station, Texas, for the Big 12 Outdoor track and field championships.

The four-day meet will begin today with the first rounds of the heptathlon and decathlon, but the Jayhawks will have no entries in those events.

Women: Andrea Branson, Andrea Bulat, Katie Eisenmenger, Kerry Fink, Erika Hamel, Eve Lamborn, Ashley Pyle, Amada Reves, Sarah Schraeder, Jennie Wonder, Megan Wray.Men: Brent Behrens, Brian Blachly, Charlie Gruber, Andy Morris, Scott Russell. Second team: Andy Tate, Jabari Wamble.Note: Lamborn had 4.0 grade point average.

Kansas coach Stanley Redwine has held several seniors out of competition this spring notably weightman Scott Russell and miler Charlie Gruber but KU still has standouts such as Brian Blachly, Andy Tate and Ryan Speers on the active roster.

Kansas has three nationally ranked athletes in Tate (steeplechase), Speers (shot put) and Andrea Bulat (javelin).

“We are looking forward to going down to Big 12 and competing at our best,” Redwine said. “Everyone seems to be competing at their best right now and hopefully we can continue to do well.”
