Langford makes prom, misses finale

All’s well that ends well for future Kansas basketball player Keith Langford sort of.

Langford, a 6-foot-4 guard/forward from Crowley, Texas, flew from Dallas to Kansas City on Friday in time to play in the Jayhawk Invitational youth tournament at Allen Fieldhouse.

Langford’s goal was to fly out after Saturday’s noon game in time for Saturday night’s North Crowley High prom.

“I made it back late Saturday night because my 3 p.m. flight (to Dallas) was canceled,” Langford said Monday. “I did not get to the prom until 9:30.”

Also, Langford received the bad news Saturday that a lifelong friend had died of cancer.

Physically tired and emotionally upset about his friend’s death, Langford elected to not fly back for the final day of the Invitational.

He played in three games for the local Sport2Sport team, including two victories. He scored 32, 19 and 12 points.
