Kansas basketball signee Wayne Simien has re-injured his right shoulder and will not be able to play in Wednesday’s McDonald’s All-America game in Durham, N.C.
Simien re-separated his shoulder at practice Monday at Duke’s Cameron Indoor Stadium. He watched Monday night’s slam dunk contest from the bench with his arm in a sling.
McDonald’s selection committee member Mike Sullivan said Monday night Simien would be unable to play in the game (8 p.m., ESPN) because of the injury.
“I am done,” Simien told Sullivan late Monday night, noting surgery is a strong possibility to correct the problem. “I can’t play any more. I just have to rest it and have it checked again when I get back home.”
Simien also will skip the Capital Classic, set for April 7 in Washington, D.C.
KU signee Aaron Miles, a point guard from Portland, Ore., will be the only future Jayhawk in Wednesday’s McDonald’s game.
Simien, who will be re-examined by his family doctor when he returns home, had his shoulder pop out of place in a game against Shawnee Mission East late in the regular season. He tried to play in Leavenworth’s sub-state loss to Free State, but lasted just over a minute because of shoulder pain.
His shoulder was believed to have been fully healed until he had it banged at practice Monday.
