Austin, Texas ? Ian Cocker of Texas won his third individual title in two days at the men’s Big 12 swimming and diving championships at the Texas Jamail Swim Center on Friday.
Crocker, a freshman, won the 100-yard butterfly in 46.64 seconds to qualify for the NCAA championships.
The Longhorns led the team title race with 806 points, Texas A&M is in second with 442, Nebraska is third with 345, Iowa State is fourth with 336.50, Missouri is fifth with 251 and Kansas is sixth with 175.50.
Kansas freshman Dustin Chalfant finished seventh in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 56.88. Senior Chad Sunderland placed 12th in the 100 in 57.71.
KU’s Jon Reyes placed eighth in the 400 I.M. in 4:07.01, and Matt Eklund was 16th in 4:08.79. KU’s Rob Kelly and Mitch Loper placed 13th and 14th, respectively, in the 100 backstroke, Kelly in 51.06 and Loper in 51.39.
In the 100 butterfly, Matt Hanson was 14th (50.47) and Adam Steele 16th (51.35). Nick Casady was 21st in 52.03.
Kelly, Chalfant, Adam Steele and Rick Murphy combined for fifth place in the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:33.60. The Jayhawks were sixth in the 800 freestyle relay in 6:53.05.
The Longhorns’ Jamie Rauch won his fourth consecutive conference title for the Longhorns in the 200 freestyle (1:35.47).
Rauch came back and anchored the Longhorns’ 800 free relay in a conference record time of 6:24.33. Scott Goldblatt, John Suchand and Chris Kemp were the other relay members. The old record was 6:26.70 set by Texas last year.
Tommy Hannan won his third consecutive conference title in the 100 backstroke (47.23), and led the Longhorns to a victory in the 200 medley relay. Hannan, Brendan Hansen, Leffie Crawford and Nate Dusing won the relay in 1:26.15.
Matt Ferrarelli of Missouri spoiled the Texas sweep by winning the 400 individual medley (3:47.38).
