Names continue to surface in Kansas University’s athletics director search.
Sources say names on KU’s wish list now include Allen Bohl, Fresno State University’s AD since 1996, and Kathleen DeBoer, senior associate athletics director at Kentucky the past 17 years.
Bohl, who worked as athletics director at Toledo for nine years prior to taking the Fresno job, has been part of FSU football resurgence. The Bulldogs won the WAC in 1999 and reached a bowl game for the first time since 1993. The ‘Dogs went 7-5 and played in a bowl again last season.
KU chancellor Robert Hemenway worked at Kentucky at the same time as DeBoer. It’s believed the Jayhawks are seeking a current AD for Bob Frederick’s vacancy, leaving DeBoer as a longshot at best.
Sources say Pitt’s Steve Pederson, TCU’s Eric Hyman and Oregon State’s Mitch Barnhart, who have been mentioned before, are not candidates for the KU job.
Candidates believed to be in the hunt: Bohl; DeBoer; Mike Hamrick, East Carolina athletics director; Doug Woolard, Saint Louis U. athletics director. Mike Bohn, Idaho athletics director, and Deborah Yow, Maryland athletics director, have been mentioned. Sources close to Bohn indicate the former Jayhawk quarterback is not in the mix; Yow’s status is uncertain.
KU’s search committee members will not comment on the search.
