A new name has surfaced as a possibility in Kansas University’s search for an athletics director. Deborah Yow, Maryland’s athletics director since 1994, could be on KU’s short list of AD candidates to replace Bob Frederick.
Yow was unavailable for comment. The search committee will not comment on candidates.
Yow this past year was president of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics. She is a member of the NCAA management council and NCAA Div. I budget committee.
Yow has balanced all of the nearly $30 million annual budgets since taking over at Maryland, something that hadn’t been achieved in 10 previous years. Under her direction, private gifts to athletics have increased 135 percent and corporate sponsorship revenues increased 270 percent.
Yow was been head women’s basketball coach at Kentucky and Florida. She also has been AD at Saint Louis University.
Others who have been mentioned as candidates for the KU job: Mike Hamrick, East Carolina; Doug Pederson, Pittsburgh; Mike Bohn, Idaho; Doug Woolard, Saint Louis and Eric Hyman, Texas Christian.
