Nick Clapp, a 6-foot-1, 235-pound linebacker from Paradise Valley (Ariz.) High, has given Kansas University’s football team a nonbinding oral commitment.

Clapp, an all-state pick as a senior, had 98 tackles last season and is the second-leading tackler in school history.

“He led our defense,” Paradise Valley football coach Don Yontis told online recruiting service MoKan Football.

“He’s the strongest kid to ever play here. He’s one of those guys who is always around the football.”

Clapp picked KU over Arizona State, Utah and Utah State.

“I just really want to play at Kansas,” Clapp said. “The guys on the visit were great. I just knew that was the place I wanted to go. I felt it on the trip. I feel relieved.”

The national letter-of-intent signing day is Wednesday.
