Columbia, Mo. ? Kansas University finished third behind Kansas State and Missouri in a triangular track meet here Friday. K-State totaled a combined men’s and women’s score of 283, followed by Missouri (253) and Kansas (168).
KU’s Jabari Wamble won the 200 (22.03) and 400 (49.51) and ran a leg on the winning 4×400 relay team. Other KU men’s winners: Brent Behrens in the 3,000 meters (8:30.62), Leo Bookman in the 60 meters (6.93), Anson Jackson in the 60-meter hurdles (8.30) and Jeremy Hull in the pole vault (15-11).
KU women’s winners: Shanetta March in the 200 meters (24.97), Andrea Branson in the pole vault (12-0) and the 4×400 relay team (3:52.12).
Manhattan ? Kansas University’s track and field team participated in day one of the KSU All-comers meet Friday. Although the meet was not a team scoring event, the Jayhawks combined for 11 individual first-place medals.
“Everyone came out and competed well for the team today,” head coach Stanley Redwine said. “From top to bottom we were solid.”
Senior Scott Russell and junior Ryan Speers both threw NCAA provisional qualifying marks in their respective events. Russell took first place in the 35-pound weight throw with a heave of 68-113/4, while Speers took first place in the shot put with a throw of 60-71/4. Charlie Gruber (3000-meter run), Brian Blachly (mile), Greg Steele (pole vault) and Benaud Shirley (triple jump) also won events.
Freshman Laura Lavoie (3,000-meter run), senior Amanda Reves (800-meter run) Sherre-Khan Blackmon (600-yard run) and junior Katy Eisenmenger (mile) won events for KU’s women.
