Dwyer named Jayhawks’ MVP

Junior nose guard Nate Dwyer was named most valuable player at the Kansas University football banquet on Friday night at the Kansas Union.

Dwyer, a second-team all-Big 12 selection, led the defensive line with 68 total tackles and also made a team-best 14 tackles for 67 yards in losses and had seven quarterback sacks.

His tackle total is the most by a down lineman at KU since 1993.

Senior defensive back Carl Nesmith, who led the team in total tackles with 103, was honored with the Willie Pless Tackler of the Year Award.

Senior linebacker Tim Bowers, who received the Don Fambrough Award for team leadership, was also recognized for being named three consecutive years as a district academic All-American.

In addition, coach Terry Allen announced that Dwyer, senior wide receiver Harrison Hill and senior linebacker Marcus Rogers would serve as team captains next season.
