KU scholarship set up to honor sports writer

By Staff     Jan 13, 2001

A scholarship has been established at Kansas University in the memory of sports writer Steve Schoenfeld.

Schoenfeld, who received a journalism degree from the school, was killed in a hit-and-run accident in October in Tempe, Ariz.

A sports writer for the Arizona Republic and CBSsportsline.com, Schoenfeld also was a past president of the Professional Football Writers Assn.

The Schoenfeld Sportswriting Scholarship will be administered by the William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass Communications at Kansas.

Potential recipients will have an expressed or demonstrated interest in sports writing and will be selected by a faculty committee at the school, on behalf of the pro football writers.
