Spring game date uncertain

There is no mix-up regarding the date of Kansas University’s spring football game.

KU officials say the possibility of holding the game the night of Saturday, April 21 the final day of the Kansas Relays is merely an idea introduced by football coach Terry Allen that might add excitement to, and increase attendance at, both events.

“Coach Allen threw out the idea and I took it to our management team on Tuesday,” KU associate athletics director Richard Konzem said. “We started initial discussions on Tuesday: ‘Could we do this? Here are the challenges of doing it. It makes it an unbelievably long day. Do we have enough time to put up the goalposts in the high jump area? Would we be better off having the spring game Saturday, Sunday or the possibility of Monday night football?’

“Members of the management team left the meeting with the idea of exploring all options, talking to promotions staff to see if it would help attendance at both events. There was never a mix-up. We were simply discussing how it would work out.”
