Kansas University is one of many schools recruiting Emeka Okafor, a 6-foot-8, 225-pound senior basketball forward from Bellaire (Texas) High.
Okafor averages 18 points and four rebounds per game. His high school coach says contenders are: Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Stanford, North Carolina State, Ohio State, Mississippi, Texas Tech, Rice, Vanderbilt and Georgia Tech. He’s visited Rice, Vandy and Georgia Tech.
“He and I have not talked about colleges in a month,” coach David Hudek said Monday. “We’re trying to get a state championship. No school is in the forefront and nobody is behind.”
Hudek said Okafor, who has a 4.4 grade point average and scored 1220 on the SAT, is not planning a quick decision. The next signing period is in April. He said KU coaches Roy Williams and Joe Holladay have been to games this winter. Holladay went to a Bellaire game last Wednesday. Williams attended a game in December.
