LINCOLN, NEB. ? Senior Amy Linnen won the championship in the pole vault, leading the Kansas University women’s track squad to a seventh-place team finish Saturday at the Big 12 Conference Indoor Championships.
The Jayhawk women scored 60 points; KU’s men were eighth after scoring 57 points.
Linnen’s vault of 13 feet, 9.25 inches fell short of the Big 12 record, but was enough for first place.
Junior Sheldon Battle placed second in the men’s shot put after a heave of 62-11.5, and senior Jeremy Mims was second in the 800-meter run in a time of 1:49.46.
“We would have liked to finish higher,” KU coach Stanley Redwine said. “We had some mistakes in a few races that really cost us.”
Manhattan ? Kansas University’s women’s track team competed Thursday at the KSU Open in preparation for next week’s Big 12 Championships.
Senior Amanda Reves won the 800 meters with a time of 2:18.68. Junior Katy Eisenmenger won the 1,000 in 3:00.08, and freshman Lauren Brownrigg won the 3,000 in 10:52.74. Senior All-American Andrea Branson won the pole vault with a height of 11 feet, 113/4 inches.
KU’s men’s team will be in action today at Kansas State. Events start at 4 p.m. The Big 12 Championships are scheduled for Feb. 23-24 in Lincoln, Neb.
BU women win
Baldwin Baker University had three players score in double figures in a 69-68 victory over Graceland University in women’s basketball Thursday night. The Wildcats (11-8, 5-13) were led by Amber Koblitz (17 points), Triece Baker (14) and Keri Zimmerman (10).
