Tigers need overtime to subdue KU, 89-84

? Missouri rallied from a six-point deficit in the final 11/2 minutes of regulation and claimed an 89-84 overtime victory over Kansas in Big 12 women’s basketball Saturday at Hearnes Center.

A layup by Jennifer Jackson gave KU a 78-72 advantage with 1:40 remaining in regulation, but the Jayhawks never led in overtime.

Missouri tied the score at 78-78 on a shot by Marlena Williams with 37 seconds left. Kansas’ KC Hilgenkamp missed a shot with nine seconds left, and Missouri’s Amanda Lassiter missed a shot at the buzzer.

The Tigers went ahead to stay on a shot by Lassiter with 2:48 left in overtime. Lassiter’s shot gave Missouri an 82-80 lead and started a 6-0 Tiger run.

Jackson scored 12 points and became the 17th player in Kansas women’s basketball history to score 1,000 career points.

Jaclyn Johnson recorded her sixth double-double of the season. She scored 20 points to lead the Jayhawks and pulled down a team-best 11 rebounds. Brooke Reves added 14 points, Hilgenkamp scored 13 points, and Nikki White had 12 points and seven rebounds.

Missouri was led by Tracy Franklin with 24 points. Lassiter had 22 points, and Williams and Kerensa Barr scored 13 points apiece.

The Jayhawks led by as much as 12 points in the first half and held a 44-35 halftime lead.

KU shot 58.2 percent from the field and hit 19 of 25 free throws but committed 25 turnovers to just 13 for Missouri. The Tigers shot 49.3 percent.

Kansas fell to 9-13 overall and 3-8 in the Big 12. Missouri is 15-7 and 6-5.

The Jayhawks will play host to 11th-ranked Texas Tech at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday at Allen Fieldhouse.
