Iowa State knocked off Kansas University’s men’s and women’s swimming and diving squads in the Jayhawks’ final regular-season dual meet Saturday afternoon at Robinson Natatorium.
The ISU women won, 157-143, and the Cyclone men cruised, 1741/2-1231/2. KU’s women are now 3-5, while the men are 0-6.
Kansas’ women winners were: Carrie Kirkham (50-yard freestyle, 24.24); senior Carolyn Grevers (100 free, 52.49); Kim Waite (200 free, 1:52.90); Rebecca McFall (one-meter diving, 269.93); Kristi Misejka (three-meter diving, 282.08); and freshman Kirsten Johnson (200 breaststroke, 2:22.78).
“Carrie Kirkham had some fantastic swims and Kristen Johnson was very impressive in the 200 breast,” KU women’s coach Cathy Burgess said. “However, we just lost too many close races and Iowa State came in here and swam very fast today.”
On the men’s side, the Jayhawks’ winners were: sophomore Brian Soria (1,000 free, 9:30.57; 500 free, 4:40.62); freshman Antoine Lewis (one-meter diving, 270.60); and freshman Anthony DiGiacco (three-meter diving, 292.95).
Up next are the Big 12 championships in Austin, Texas diving, Feb. 14-17; women’s swimming, Feb. 15-17; and men’s swimming, March 1-3.
