Jayhawks invited to bowls

Kansas University’s football team might not be playing in a postseason bowl game this year, but three of its seniors are.

The Journal-World has learned defensive tackle Nate Dwyer, linebacker Algie Atkinson and offensive tackle Justin Hartwig have been invited to participate in college all-star games.

Dwyer, a first-team coaches’ All-Big 12 selection, will be playing in the Senior Bowl on Jan. 26 in Mobile, Ala. Kickoff is 4 p.m. and the game will be televised live by ESPN. Dwyer had 51 total tackles this season with nine tackles for a loss, including three sacks.

Atkinson and Hartwig have been tapped for the Blue-Gray Classic at noon on Christmas Day in Montgomery, Ala. The Classic will be televised by ABC. Atkinson became KU’s all-time leader in sacks this season, finishing his career with 23 after 10 this season. Hartwig, who started every game his final three seasons, anchored the offensive line at right tackle.
