Six Haskell Indian Nations University students who transferred to Kansas University this fall have been named recipients of Thomas M. and Elva Ottman Bowlus scholarships.
The scholarships were presented Wednesday during a luncheon at the Kansas Union. Depending on their grade point average, each of the six will be eligible for up to $1,000.
Prior to enrolling at KU, the six students participated in the Haskell Mentoring Program, a program aimed at helping American Indian students make the transition from a small college to a large university. Currently, Haskell has 1,028 students. KU has 25,782.
The students are Stanley Holder, Lawrence; Tamara Thomas, Rose Hill; Charles Woolery Jr., Bellevue, Neb.; Daniel One Feather, Elko, Nev.; Michael Begay, Crownpoint, N.M., and Robbie Goslin, Bayfield, Wis.
