Lubbock, Texas ? Kansas University’s Pete Smart allowed just two runs off 10 hits, but was outdueled by Texas Tech’s Chris Phillips in the Red Raiders’ 2-1 baseball victory over the Jayhawks on Saturday at Dan Law Field.
Phillips (11-3) allowed just one unearned run off five hits over the full nine innings. Both runs surrendered by Smart (8-3) were earned, including the game-winner in the bottom of the eighth, when Byron Smith lofted a sacrifice fly to score Gera Alvarez.
