Oklahoma State ousts KU from Big 12 tennis

? The fifth-seeded Kansas University men’s tennis team was edged by No. 4 Oklahoma State, 4-3, in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 Tournament here Friday.

The loss eliminated Kansas (15-11) from the tournament. OSU (12-7) advanced to today’s semifinals against Texas A&M, which defeated Texas Tech, 5-0.

KU’s Quentin Blakeney won at No. 1 singles against Matt Prentice, 6-2, 7-5; and Rodrigo Echagaray won at No. 3 singles against Eru Lyndon, 6-2, 1-6, 6-3. KU also won the doubles point. Blakeney and Pete Stroer won at No. 1 doubles, and Eleazar Magallan and Andrew Metzler won at No. 3 doubles.

With the score tied at 3-3, the match was decided at the No. 6 singles spot where Anthony Zafiris beat Metzler, 6-2, 2-6, 6-1, clinching the victory for OSU.

KU also tumbled to Oklahoma State in the women’s tournament, 4-0.
