Omaha, Neb. ? Two Kansas University softball players are doubtful for today’s doubleheader against Creighton in Omaha.
Outfielders Shelly Musser (back) and Leah Tabb (shoulder) most likely will be held out to give them more time to heal for next weekend’s key home series against defending NCAA champion Oklahoma.
Musser, a two-time All-Big 12 selection, hasn’t played in the last 10 days.
“Shelly has shown some improvement,” KU coach Tracy Bunge said. “I think she will be able to go this weekend. But we don’t want to do something on Wednesday that would set her back. Defensively, she could probably play, but swing extension is her problem.”
Tabb was injured in the same game last Saturday at Iowa State in which she established a school single-season record with her 10th home run.
“She’s questionable, too,” Bunge said, “but I’m 99 percent sure Leah will be ready for the weekend.”
Tabb was injured when she threw to home plate from right field. Tabb, normally a catcher, has played right since Erin Garvey was moved to center to replace Musser.
Freshman Mel Wallach would step in if Tabb doesn’t play in today’s 3 p.m. twinbill.
KU might also be without second baseman Amy Hulse, who was ill on Tuesday.
Kansas, 29-20 overall, has won nine in a row and is currently in third place in the Big 12 with a 9-4 record. The Jayhawks will meet Oklahoma in 1 p.m. games on Saturday and Sunday at Jayhawk Field.
