Harvester, Iowa ? Kansas University sophomore Heather Rose is tied for eighth place, but the Jayhawks are in 12th place after the first day of the Big 12 women’s golf championships.
Rose shot an 82, six strokes behind leader Jamie Tucker of Missouri, at the par-72 Harvester Golf Club.

“I am extremely pleased with the efforts and performance of Heather Rose,” Kansas coach Nicole Hollingsworth said. “She represented our team well.”
KU seniors Sarah Mahoney and Ashely Bishop are tied for 43rd in the first round of the three-day event. KU sophomore Tiffany Kruggel and freshman Jennifer Bawanan tied for 55th place.
“This was one of the toughest days of golf competition I have ever seen as a coach,” Hollingsworth said. “Our team is going to rebound and come back playing well tomorrow.”
Missouri leads the team race with 319 strokes. KU had 358 total strokes.
Gusts of up to 30 mph produced sub-freezing wind chills.
“A score of 319 on a sunny day isn’t a good score,” Missouri coach Tom Loyd said. “On a day like today, it is. These are the toughest conditions I’ve seen in five or six years.
