Jayhawks down SMU in women’s tennis

Kansas University’s women’s tennis team defeated No. 44 Southern Methodist 5-2 on Saturday at Robinson Courts in the Jayhawks’ final home match of the season.

The bottom of KU’s lineup came through with four victories, clinching the win for the 52nd-ranked Jayhawks. Freshman Emily Haylock extended her singles winning streak to six matches with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Kit Carson in No. 5 singles. Courtney Steinbock, Lisa Mallaiah and Christi Wagenaar also earned singles victories for Kansas.

KU’s final regular-season match will be today at the Plaza Tennis Center in Kansas City, Mo., where the Jayhawks will meet No. 21 Texas A&M.
