Kansas Relays begins today

The 2001 Kansas Relays will begin today with a light schedule at Kansas University’s Memorial Stadium.

The first day of the Jim Bausch Decathlon and Candace Mason Heptathlon will run from 10 this morning until 4:30 this afternoon.

The Relays will continue with a light slate Thursday, and Friday will be the first full day of college and high school competition.

The leading competitor in the decathlon is Joe Cbulski of Bell Athletics, who has scored 7,650 points. Nebraska’s Jesse Culbern is right behind at 6,800.

Leading competitors in the heptathlon: Nebraska’s Katherine Livesey and Alissa Koerner, plus unattached competitors Taylor Cates and Jessica Walters. No Kansas University athletes are in either event. In all, 17 will compete in the decathlon and 12 in the heptathlon.
