Ames, Iowa ? Iowa State’s Alan Bomer struck out nine and scattered four hits in a 9-1 Big 12 baseball victory over Kansas on Sunday at Timm Field.
KU fell to 16-22 overall and 4-16 in league play. ISU is 12-19, 5-8.
“Bomer was pretty tough today, just look at his line score,” KU skipper Bobby Randall said. “We didn’t help our chances by striking out nine times and committing three errors.
KU starter Justin Wilcher, who was battling the flu, allowed two earned runs on five hits in 12/3 innings. He fell to 1-7 on the season.
Middle reliever Eric Thompson allowed four runs off eight hits in 41/3 innings.
Jesse Gremminger extended his hitting streak to 14 games with an RBI single in the seventh. The two teams will meet again at 1 p.m. today.
