Kansas University junior shooting guard Jeff Boschee will have surgery on his right thumb next Thursday morning.
The purpose of the procedure, to be performed by Dr. Neil Lintecum, will be to reconstruct a ligament in Boschee’s shooting thumb.
The ligament became unstable after multiple thumb sprains throughout Boschee’s career.
Boschee will wear a cast six weeks, then return to pick-up basketball shortly after that.
The 6-foot-1 native of Valley City, N.D., averaged 11.1 points and 3.5 assists for the 26-7 Jayhawks.
Meanwhile, freshman forward Bryant Nash, who suffered a sprained MCL in his right knee on March 12, has fully recovered and returned to pick-up action.
Sophomore forward Nick Collison, who had bursa sac surgery on his right arm earlier this week, will be out another week.
Incoming freshman Keith Langford, who had meniscus surgery on his knee two weeks ago, has had a speedy recovery and is back on the court. Wayne Simien, another KU signee who had shoulder surgery recently, won’t be able to play in pick-up games until September.
