KU soccer player breaks leg in match

By The Associated Press     Apr 11, 2001

Kansas University soccer player Carmel Kaplinger suffered a broken leg in a 2-0 exhibition victory over Oklahoma State in the KU Spring Classic last weekend.

Kaplinger, who transferred to KU from Louisville, should be ready for the fall regular season.

“The good news is the injury will not require surgery,” KU coach Mark Francis said. “It was a pretty clean break and I told her that is much better than ligament damage, or something that would keep her our for a much longer period.”

Kansas also edged Southwest Missouri State, 2-1, on two goals by Natalie Hoogveld and bowed to Tulsa, 1-0.
