Jayhawk netters wrap up Fallon Invitational against Baylor

? Kansas University faced Baylor on the final day of the Tom Fallon Invitational. The Jayhawks won three of six singles matches, with Baylor dominating doubles play.

Junior Quentin Blakeney (Charlotte, N.C.) won his third consecutive singles match, going 3-1 in the invitational with a 4-6, 6-0, 1-0 (10-6) victory over Baylor’s Sean O’Connor.

Freshman Andrew Metzler (Kansas City, Mo.) also finished the weekend 3-1, as he knocked off the Bears’ Reiner Neurohr, 6-5, 6-5.

Fellow freshman Gustavo Telles (Recife, Brazil) was victorious in his match, defeating Mike Garcia, 6-4, 6-2, for his first victory of the tournament.

In doubles action, Blakenay and Pete Stroer defeated O’Connor and Neurohr 8 sets to 6. Baylor took the other match-ups.

Earlier in the tournament, KU faced a tough Wisconsin Badger team, dropping 4 of six singles’ matches.

Junior Quentin Blakeney (Charlotte, N.C.) delivered a tough 6-0, 5-6 (3-7), 1-0 (10-7) victory over UW’s Scott Rutherford, while freshman Andrew Metzler (Kansas City, Mo.) won his second match of the tournament,
defeating Justin Baker, 6-2, 5-6 (2-7), 1-0 (10-7).

Next up for the Jayhawks: the Drake Fall Tournament in Des Moines, Iowa, Oct. 13-15.
