Kansas University officials are asking all fans attending today’s game between KU and Alabama-Birmingham to exercise caution in view of the hot and dry conditions that have made grassy areas around Memorial Stadium dry and vulnerable to fire.
The grass parking area (Lot 124) on the northeast side of the stadium will be watered down prior to the game.
In addition, there will be six 55-gallon metal barrels with the word “charcoal” painted on the outside around the stadium for fans to deposit any hot charcoal remains from grills used in tailgate parties. The barrels will have a foot of water in them to extinguish the charcoal.
Smokers also are asked to fully extinguish their smoking materials and to dispose of them in a proper receptacle.
