Kansas University dispatched East Carolina in three games, but needed four games to dispose of West Virginia during Friday’s first round of the Jayhawk Volleyball Classic at Horejsi Center.
KU stopped East Carolina, 15-10, 15-6, 15-9 in the afternoon, then beat West Virginia, 15-5, 15-17, 15-1 and 15-3 on Friday night.
“I was pleased with our passes and serves today,” KU coach Ray Bechard said.
Three Jayhawks reached double digits in kills against East Carolina. Amy Myatt had 19, Nancy Bell 12 and Kylie Davis 10.
Myatt had 23 kills in the West Virginia victory. Sarah Rome had 15 kills and 15 digs, Danielle Geronymo 13 kills and 11 digs and Bell 16 kills and 13 digs as KU boosted its record to 6-0.
Today Kansas is scheduled to meet Furman at noon and Mississippi at 7 p.m.
In other matches Friday, Ole Miss topped Furman, 3-1, and West Virginia, 3-1; and East Carolina pinned Furman, 3-1.
