? Alabama-Birmingham went through its final practice Tuesday in preparation for Thursday night’s season opener against Tennessee-Chattanooga.

The Blazers will meet the NCAA Div. I-AA Mocassins at 7 p.m. at Legion Field.

UAB, which will travel to Kansas on Sept. 16, had its final practice in pads on Sunday.

“It was a good practice,” UAB coach Watson Brown said. “I think we’re getting closer now to game time, and you see their spirits picking up a little, and their work habits. They’re a little more intent on what they’re doing. I think it’s time for us to play somebody. We’ve done just about all we can do.”

Sophomore Kenny Borders continues to practice and recover from a hamstring injury, while Cedric Thatch is still limited due to a foot injury, and Royd Williams has not been able to return to practice in over a week since spraining an ankle.
